About My Journey

Me and Vincent
I started painting late in life when I took an art class offered for parents at a private elementary school where my husband was director. I created a charcoal sketch for that class, then thought, 'There must be a dry medium like charcoal that I could use to add some color.' A trip to the art store revealed pastels.
My first painting, Before the Fall, was based on Degas' Woman in the Bathtub, which later, on a trip to Paris, I discovered was a pastel. The Orsay Museum’s amazing and extensive collection of pastels from Degas and others inspired me to begin exploring the medium further. Seven years later, I retired and since then my art has gone from an occasional pastime to a full-time passion, where pastel is my primary medium.
My subjects range from trees to birds to anything that challenges my comfort zone. What always catches my eye is color and light; shadows and shapes. My goal, no matter what I'm painting, is to create something that will capture the
beauty and mystery I see and communicate that beauty and mystery to my viewers.
The impressionists and post-impressionists inspire me: Degas, Cezanne, Cassat, Klahn, Manet, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Sargent. But that's only where it starts. From Rembrandt to Gurney, my inspirations are eclectic.
My husband, Paul Bauck, and I share this love of art. Now that we are retired, our art adventures have become the main focus of our days and of our travels. Adding to my art life is membership in The Art Gluttons, a group of women friends who meet monthly to support each other's art journey.
I will post new paintings here as I complete ones that are ready to share. Please do come back to visit from time to time to see what is new. I am delighted to share my passion with you and hope you will enjoy these bits of me you find here.
All paintings are for sale, except those in Archives which are already sold and in private collections.
